I then tried the synology assistant but again got no response. I tried another computer and it also failed to get a response. Finally, I looked at the disk station and saw that the power and drive lights were all off, and the status light was just barely blinking. The blinking is a very short green flash about every two seconds.

If the power LED still blinks after 10 minutes even without any drives inserted: the NAS is DOA. Contact the reseller you bought the NAS from or submit a ticket on Synology's website for a replacement. If the power LED turns solid, turn it back off, then insert ONE disk and turn it back on. Do not insert all of the drives yet.

The NAS was up and running. But it had one 10TB hard disk rather than my 80TB RAID. I shut it down and updated Synology via email. I found some instructions that told me now would be the right point to pull out the fresh disk and put my array back in place. I tried it. I got the blue blinking LED of death for ten minutes. I decided to be sneaky.

tip tongfamily.com
If the blue power light stays blinking it means that it did not make it through power on self test and the motherboard is bad. Send a trouble ticket into Synology and get an RMA. if it takes a minute or so and you get a solid blue light and a beep then you have successfully POSTed. If it does boot, then you likely have a bad firmware installation.
